Physical Form : A fairly large cat, Sunwhisker's form is quite lanky and slim, to the point where he almost looks scrawny.  He's fairly long-bodied, and his head sits atop a fine, slender neck.  His legs are long and slim, again, almost scrawny-looking, and make him taller than most other cats.  His tail is also quite long.  He's not very muscular, but his size gives him a strength advantage over smaller opponents, while his lithe form lends him speed and agility, which makes for a deadly combination in battle.  Most of his features are fairly 'neat', particularly his paws, which are compact, lightly rounded, and almost dainty-looking, but are most definitely not so - underneath, his pads are tough and obviously strong and perfect for running.  His head is rounded, not blocky, and slightly triangular in form, with a medium-long, fine muzzle and a well-proportioned, angular nose with wide nostrils.  His ears are high-set, thin but tall, and narrow to a just slightly-rounded point at the tips, giving them a perpetually alert and curious look.-
Coat : Sunwhisker is a brown mackerel tabby, though he is quite a bit lighter than most brown tabbies you'll find.  His fur is a medium brown with hints of reddish gold - a sort of auburn color.  Like most tabbies, his underbelly, chest, paws, and the backs of his legs are lighter, as well as the underside of his tail and areas around his eyes and muzzle.  His striping is fairly light on his legs and flanks, but is particularly dark on his tail, shoulders, and on the top of his head, on his cheeks, and above his eyes.  There's also a dark streak running down his spine, from between his shoulder blades all the way down to the tip of his tail.  His pelt is short but quite thick and fairly glossy, and holds a golden gleam in the sunlight.  It perpetually spikes up in odd directions while still appearing well-groomed, seeming particularly spiky on top of his head and on his chest, shoulders, and tail.  Still, it is apparent that he cares for it well, and it is neat despite its natural clumpiness.
Eyes : His eyes are large and fairly round but with a slight almond shape, seemingly always curious and alert, like his ears.  They are a warm, honey-brown-gold color, with a darker, coppery brown ring around the pupil.
Other : His nose and paw pads are a rosy-pink.  His whiskers are white.  He has a small but fairly deep scar across his left shoulder blade, though it's well-covered by his fur.

Vocal Characteristics : Sunwhisker's voice is of medium-high pitch, fairly smooth and not gravelly, but not exactly soft, either.  When he's angry, there's a continuous, low-level growl present in his tone; however, in his general good mood, his voice is fairly happy and bouncy, with plenty of character.  His voice tends to rise in pitch, often to something of a squeak, when he's excited, nervous, or surprised.  He speaks with an English accent - a mix of Estuary with some Cockney - though there's also a hint of Scottish present in the way he enunciates certain words.  [Voice actor David Tennant]
Scent : Sunwhisker has a naturally honey-tinged scent.
Posture : His posture is generally quite straight but also relaxed.  He tends to lean over and tilt his head when he's cheekily joking around, splaying his forelegs a bit in a slight bow and swaying gently back and forth.  When he's sad, he'll slouch a bit, and when he's angry, he visibly tenses up; his posture generally reveals his moods quite well, unless he's purposely trying to hide what he's feeling.
Gait : He has quite a smooth gait, his movements often seeming almost effortless.  He'll gain a noticeable bounce when excited.  The length of his legs makes his stride longer than most cats, so he generally travels faster than them, even when he's not in a hurry; he often has to check his speed when he's with cats with shorter legs.  When he is in a hurry, he has no qualms about running at full-speed; he's very quick on his paws.

Ability(ies) :   • Sunwhisker has a natural resistance to any source of heat, which means he doesn't overheat very easily on hot days or in direct sunlight, and can even tolerate short bursts of flame with little more than some slightly singed fur.
                  • Sunwhisker's second power causes his eyes to glow with a very bright light, like that of the sun.  This can cause overheating and minor burns, as well as temporary blindness to those he targets with it.

Proficiency : Over the moons, Sunwhisker has become fairly proficient with his power usage; however, this was not always the case.  At first, though his resistance to heat came naturally and required no effort or practice, he found it difficult to call upon his second power at will, but strong emotions would set his eyes ablaze and he had trouble containing its power and calming himself once more.  With practice, he has learnt to control it with much more ease; however, strong waves of anger will still sometimes cause it to activate without him wanting it to.

        A very clever cat, Sunwhisker is always thinking about why things work the way they do.  He doesn't just take things as they are, instead trying to work out the mysteries within.  Despite this, he is constantly amazed and awed by the smallest things, and finds beauty in things most others would overlook or even shy away from in fear or disgust.  Quite the adventurer, he can sometimes goes overboard in his curiosity and put himself, and those with him, in danger.  He can be a bit of a daredevil, and rarely seems to take the easy way out, left unsatisfied if all possibilities aren't explored, to the point where he sometimes completely misses an easy solution to a problem, passes it up, and comes up with a much more convoluted and ridiculously complex resolution in its place because he didn't notice what was right in front of his nose.  Fortunately, he's usually pretty good at getting himself and his friends out of bad situations.  Though there have been a few close calls in the past, somehow, no matter the situation, he always seems to be able to get himself out of slippery and potentially hazardous situations - whether this is through skill or just pure luck is something to be debated.  That's not to say he always comes out unscathed - he's been battered and bruised and knocked about quite a few times because he stuck his nose where it didn't belong.  However, he knows how to use his cleverness to defuse tense situations, distract would-be assailants, and come up with solutions to problems others may never have even considered, sometimes even finding or creating tools he every so often finds himself in need of throughout his wild adventures.  For all his cleverness, though, he can be a bit scatterbrained, occasionally losing track of what he was doing or saying for a few moments before remembering and resuming his train of thought as if nothing had happened.
        Sweet, happy-go-lucky, and kind at heart, Sunwhisker holds his friends in the highest regard.  He's willing to help just about anyone, as long as they have some redeeming quality about them.  If he finds someone to be rude, cruel, or especially thick, however, he can be quite snide and even demeaning toward them.  In his way of thinking, there isn't much point to trying to be nice to someone who doesn't care to give him or his friends the same courtesy.  This is especially the case if he's in a poor mood - in these cases, just about everybody is thick in his mind.  Prolonged periods of depression also make him quite prickly and defensive, and he can say things that he doesn't really mean.  He can also be rather sassy at times, responding to both friendly jibes and true hostility in a cheeky, almost playful manner.
        Sunwhisker has a soft spot for kits, and despite his usual energy, can act surprisingly gentle, affectionate, and even nurturing towards them, as well as towards his close family.  One could almost call him motherly... in a fatherly sort of way.  He likes to talk, as well, and can often be found babbling on about things that confuse those around him to no end.  He'll happily explain, however, if he is asked - most of the time, he doesn't even think about the fact that those around him may not be able to keep up with his racing mind.  If he feels the cat asking is being particularly dense, though, he'll complain about their shortsightedness... and then explain in more simple terms anyway.
        He's also very protective of those he cares about, and will defend them fiercely from both physical and verbal attacks, willing to jeopardize or even sacrifice his own well-being and livelihood for theirs.  He is quickly angered by needlessly violent or cruel acts, particularly toward young cats or his friends, and if he is pushed too far, he will ruthlessly avenge the suffering, to the point where his conscious thought sort of freezes over and he sees only what needs to be done.  It is at this point when he is at his most dangerous.  Once he's snapped out of this state, however, and his actions finally dawn on him, he'll often feel guilty, even though said actions were likely necessary and completely warranted.
        Sunwhisker tends to be fairly forgiving, but only up to a point.  If someone does something he considers particularly bad - something done in cold blood, or a poor decision made more than once that hurts another, despite warning against it the first time - he's not likely to ever forgive that cat again.  No second chances, no second warnings.  Occasionally, through a selfless act, that individual can regain some of his respect, but it is extremely unlikely his outlook on them will be the same as before.
        In addition, his unforgiving side also extends to himself - if he makes a mistake, he'll beat up on himself for it for moons, cycles even, particularly if someone is hurt by his actions.  Often, in those cases, he never fully forgives himself - even if he remains outwardly cheerful and happy, on the inside, he's wracked with guilt over his actions.  One of Sunwhisker's more difficult traits is his tendency to internalize his pain and sorrow, instead putting on a mask of carefree happiness to try and make others think he's alright.  Even if a friend sees through this mask and confronts him about it, he'll usually try to avoid the topic and shift focus away from himself.  It takes a lot of persistence to get him to open up and talk about his problems, and he'll only do so with those he trusts most.

General Aura : Sunwhisker gives out a strong aura of cheerfulness and amicability, a deep curiosity and almost kitlike wonder for the world, and an obvious intelligence and wisdom that makes him seem older than he actually is.
Quirks : If his mouth is used up with trying to do something, he'll quickly resort to using all four of his paws if he needs to, or vice versa.  In addition, he has a bit of a nervous tic, where, when subjected to embarrassment, awkwardness, or nerves, he will reach up and rub behind his ear with a paw, as long as he is standing or sitting in place.  He has quite a few little 'sayings' he uses, such as loudly proclaiming "Ohh, I am very good!" when he figures something tricky out, and has a tendency to repeatedly exclaim "Whot?!" in a high, squeaky voice with increasing shrillness when he's confused or surprised by something.  His favorite word seems to be "brilliant", though "sorry" (and variants) tends to be used frequently, as well.  He also has the rather unfortunate habit of licking things, claiming he can pick up traces even his nose can't by doing so.

Goal(s) : Priority one is to raise and teach his kits everything he possibly can, and to keep them safe and well and happy.  An outbranching of this is to ensure that Erminekit and Martenkit are provided for, have parental stability, and feel loved despite the death of their mother and abandonment by their own father.  His second priority is to be the best warrior he can be, and to train Saffronpaw as well as he can and perhaps help her heal some of her emotional scars, if possible.

Backstory : Sunwhisker was born Sun, across the mountain range near the ocean, close to where the southern branch of the river empties out into the sea.  His parents, Flint and Sage, did their best to raise him and his brother, Storm, well, despite the fact that they were outsiders living on their own and had to contend with a small band of other, more aggressive cats for prey and territory.
        Sun had a fairly uneventful kithood, until some time after he and Storm had reached their third moon, when the small family came across an abandoned kit - a small, black and white tom who called himself Shadow.  He'd been separated from his own family about a quarter-moon earlier and was struggling to survive on his own.  Unwilling to see the younger kit starve, Sage and Flint took him in.  They searched for Shadow's mother, but she was never found, so Shadow was adopted into the small family.  The three kits quickly bonded, becoming as close as brothers.
        The five lived in relative peace for another three moons, until a small band of outsiders decided to take over their little patch of land.  Unwilling to see their sons killed in battle, Sage and Flint made the decision to flee, and led the kits northeast along the river, heading for the mountains.  Instead of searching the thick forest to the north for a suitable place, thinking it likely held just as many other outsiders as their old home, they continued east into the mountains, climbing up to follow the narrow path along the top edge of the cliff, the mountains on the left and a steep drop down to the fast-moving river on the right.
        They were nearly through the pass when, one morning, Sage slipped on some loose gravel along the side of the path and slid partway down the steep decline toward the water, clinging to an outcropping of rock.  Flint went down after her to try and help her back up, but the outcropping and a small portion of the cliff crumbled, sending both cats falling into the rapids, never to be seen again.
        Stunned by the incident, the kits waited for their parents for three long days, frantically searching along the cliff edge in hopes of finding them once more, but eventually, they accepted the fate of the two adults and were forced to move on, weary and heartbroken.  They continued to follow the river down the mountain, finding themselves in MistClan territory.
        They were found by a patrol sheltering among some rocks near the Falls, close to the border.  Though at first terrified that these cats were as aggressive as the outsider gangs they'd left behind on the other side of the mountains, the three young cats' fear quickly turned to curiosity when it was clear the others weren't going to attack, and they allowed the patrol to lead them back to the Clan's camp.  When the newly-appointed leader, Dovestar, invited them to join the Clan, they agreed and, now being of apprentice age, were assigned mentors.
        Sun, now known as Sunpaw, was given the aging but still active and quick-witted Birdleap as his mentor.  The fiesty and sometimes sharp-tongued she-cat tempered the young tom into a fine warrior, though her attitude didn't serve to affect Sunpaw's own strong-willed personality in any way, shape, or form, and he, along with brothers Stormpaw and Shadowpaw, as well as their new friends Bubblepaw, Graypaw, and Brightfern, relished in the opportunity to explore and make mischief, frequently finding themselves in trouble with their mentors.  The younger she-cat Emberpaw wasn't as keen on the three young toms, however, and frequently gave them grief about their heritage once she was made an apprentice, as well.  Though her insults stung, the brothers didn't let it get to them too much.
        Their less-than-mature charades didn't stop them from growing and learning, and soon enough, the three brothers had become warriors.  Sunpaw was given the full name of Sunwhisker, Stormpaw was now Stormfall, and Shadowpaw had become Shadowstep.  Their friends, Bubblepaw and Graypaw, had also risen in rank, becoming Bubblepool and Grayflash.  Life was good.
        It quickly became apparent, however, that Shadowstep's newly-honed abilities were so powerful that they were far beyond his control, and the young tom began to lose himself in the whisperings he heard in his mind.  It was never clear what exactly Shadowstep was hearing, but gradually, he secluded himself more and more from the others, becoming more irritable and aggressive, and occasionally even lapsing into bouts of seeming insanity.  Many cats in the Clan became fearful of him, and Sunwhisker and Stormfall didn't know what to think.  Of course they wanted to help their brother, but he had become so irrational that nothing they tried seemed to help.
        When Shadowstep was found standing over Grayflash's mangled body, the latter cat's blood soaked into his fur, it seemed apparent what had happened.  Shadowstep must have lost himself in one of his episodes, and in his rage, brutalized Grayflash, his once-friend.  The black and white tom, just 19 moons old, was exiled from the Clan for murdering a fellow Clanmate, despite Shadowstep's protestations of innocence.  Sunwhisker and Stormfall were devastated by the development, but given the evidence, and Shadowstep's recent behavior, they had no choice but to believe their adoptive brother was a traitor.  They watched him walk between the rows of MistClan cats in silence, too stunned to speak a word on his behalf.  Shadowstep was not seen or heard from again, and it was assumed he was likely dead.  Several cats in the Clan grew to mistrust or even hate Sunwhisker and Stormfall due to their brother's betrayal, including newly made warrior Emberflame, and the two toms lived daily with the weight of their mistrust on their shoulders.
        It was around about that time that a young she-cat called Nightpaw was apprenticed.  Nightpaw's parents had both been killed - her father falling over Misty Falls and her mother slaughtered by lynxes - and Sunwhisker and Stormfall, able to identify, having lost their own parents at a young age, quickly befriended her.  Sunwhisker in particular had taken a liking to Nightpaw even before her apprenticeship, though his feelings toward her were of friendship only.  Soon enough, Nightpaw was made into the warrior, Nightsong, and she and the brothers, along with Bubblepool and Brightfern, grew even closer.
        The mistrust exhibited by the rest of the Clan gradually calmed down, and Sunwhisker and Stormfall became more comfortable with their place in the Clan, but about 18 moons after Shadowstep's exile, a rash of mysterious deaths and disappearances began to call their loyalty into question once again.  Certain cats started whispering rumors that the two outsider-born toms were behind the deaths, and Sunwhisker and Stormfall began to notice the now-familiar looks and glares once more.  With no way to prove their innocence, and no other way to explain the unfortunate incidents other than being strangely coincidental accidents, the brothers were forced to live with their Clanmate's distrust yet again.
        During this time, Nightsong, along with Bubblepool and Brightfern, were very supportive of the two brothers.  The dark she-cat and Sunwhisker began to grow even closer than they'd ever been before, and eventually, Nightsong confessed her love to him.  Though he was shocked at first, Sunwhisker quickly realized that he did, indeed, feel the same way, and soon after, asked Nightsong to be his mate.  Much to his relief and joy, she accepted.
        About a half-moon later, the black-based she-cat came to Sunwhisker with some exciting news.  After a brief scare thinking he'd offended Nightsong when she'd questioned him about her slight weight gain, the she-cat revealed to her mate that she was pregnant, much to Sunwhisker's joyful excitement.  He was going to be a father!

Physical Form : Stormfall is a good-sized cat, and quite lanky in form, with fairly long, wiry legs and a slender frame.  He's not very muscular, being rather scrawny in form, but he's still stronger than he looks, and in combination with his size, he is also quite lithe, which lends him speed and agility.  In all, he can be a surprisingly formidable opponent in battle, especially given his usual clumsiness during everyday activity.  His paws are large, blocky, and square, and his rear legs are a bit bowed, his knees farther apart and his ankles closer together than normal, which gives him a quite distinctive, almost lazy gait.  His tail is also fairly long.  His head is more blocky than round in shape, with a medium-long, boxy muzzle and a large, square chin.  His nose is a near-perfect triangle, with wide nostrils, and his large, triangular, pointed ears hold a slanted set atop his head.
Coat : Stormfall's coat is slightly longer than most short-furred cats but not quite medium-length, and is quite thick and soft in texture.  It grows longer on his chest and tail, and is almost feathery in texture.  He is a blue mackerel tabby bicolor, with a strong, dusty tint that makes him overall more of a medium gray-brown than blue-gray.  His tabby striping is fairly light, though it grows darker along his spine, tail, shoulders, and the top of his head.  He has a creamy white chin, throat, and upper chest, ending in a point just before his belly.  Upon his upper chest, the bicolor breaks slightly, revealing a distinctive tabby splotch, shaped vaguely like a bowtie.
Eyes : Stormfall's eyes are wide almonds in shape with a prominent brow, slightly deeper set than most cats.  They are a medium, sage green in color, slightly darker around the pupil and around the outside of the iris, with lighter green and amber-tinted streaks around the center of the iris.

Posture : His posture is generally fairly relaxed and fairly straight.  When he is annoyed or thinking hard, he often lowers his head, especially if he's walking at the time.  He will also tip his head downward a bit when he's angry or very serious, glaring intimidatingly up at his combatant from under his brows.  He will often become very straight and somewhat rigid when he's pleased with himself or after been embarrassed, as if to try and recover his dignity.  His posture usually reveals a lot about how he is feeling, unless he's purposely trying to hide his emotions.
Gait : Stormfall has a very peculiar, distinctive gait, which is at least partially due to his bowleggedness.  He moves at a sort of gawky amble, and usually appears rather awkward and clumsy - if he was observing the movement in another cat, he'd likely compare it to that of a young fawn still growing into its legs.  His run is similarly awkward, his legs splaying outward a bit more than most cats'.

        Stormfall is easily excitable and tends to become enthused about things others find insignificant or even silly.  Oftentimes, he will go off on long-winded tangents about subjects others hardly understand, and has to be asked to explain things in less detail so they can comprehend what he is saying.  He is also surprisingly wise at times, and holds a great deal of life experience, even in his young age.  He has a habit of speaking what is on his mind at any given time, and, due to the fact that his mind often wanders while it explores different possibilities, he often quickly moves from one topic to a seemingly disparate one with little to no pause in his speech.  This has the effect of making him sound very random at times.  He will also sometimes compare something to another, completely unrelated thing, often with humorous results - occasionally, even he will realize the ridiculousness of his attempted association, and will retract it, even commenting on how abstract it was.
        Underneath his generally pleasant and approachable nature, Stormfall also has a darker side.  To his enemies, his bubbly attitude can be something that is almost frightening, as he can easily flip from being seemingly cheerful and loud to an intense, menacing calm, and then just as quickly to being alarmingly angry and loud.  He has little to no tolerance for individuals who wish others harm, and, occasionally, will be so greatly angered by unkind or cruel acts or other harmful behaviors that he will forget himself, and, in seeking justice for these crimes, can do things he regrets later.  This raw state of fury is fairly rare and difficult to achieve, however.  Because of this, his own anger can confuse and surprise him a bit, and it is sometimes accompanied by an influx of other feelings that overwhelm him and make him emotional.
        Similarly, he also uses his happy-go-lucky persona to hide his own pain and depression, and it can often be very difficult to tell when he is feeling down because of this.  When upset about something, he tends to hide away inside his own misery, and it can take quite a bit of effort to tease his true feelings out; he will only do so with those he greatly trusts.  He also seems to have a bit of difficulty sorting through some of his emotions, particularly romantic affections, and tends to try and hide and even sometimes ignore these feelings, if possible.  Despite this, he's a surprisingly good actor, and can easily put on a show of, say, intense seriousness and fool others into thinking he is a threat when he is in reality just trying to motivate them toward the action he needs or desires from them.

Quirks : Stormfall's most obvious quirk is the fact that his tail is almost constantly in motion when he's talking - he tends to flail it about when he speaks or becomes frustrated or excited.  In addition, he tends to walk with a hunch-shouldered posture, his head lowered, particularly when he's in thought, or is angry.  He also has a habit of shouting "Geronimo!" when he leaps into some new situation, or repeatedly claiming things are cool when most probably think they aren't.  In addition, he will occasionally find some rare plant or flower or other such thing and stick it on his head and proclaim that is cool.  If said thing isn't promptly removed, he'll inevitably become attached to it and won't want to take it off.

Backstory : Stormfall was born Storm, across the mountain range near the ocean, close to where the southern branch of the river empties out into the sea.  His parents, Flint and Sage, did their best to raise him and his brother, Sun, well, despite the fact that they were outsiders living on their own and had to contend with a small band of other, more aggressive cats for prey and territory.
        Storm and his brother had a fairly uneventful kithood, until some time after he and Sun had reached their third moon, when the small family came across an abandoned kit - a small, black and white tom who called himself Shadow.  He'd been separated from his own family about a half-moon earlier and was struggling to survive on his own.  Unwilling to see the younger kit starve, Sage and Flint took him in.  They searched for Shadow's mother, but she was never found, so Shadow was adopted into the small family.  The three kits quickly bonded, becoming as close as brothers.
        The five lived in relative peace for another moon and a half, until a small band of outsiders decided to take over their little patch of land.  Unwilling to see their sons killed in battle, Sage and Flint made the decision to flee, and led the kits northeast along the river, heading for the mountains.  Instead of following the river north, towards a thick patch of forest beyond, they continued east, climbing up to follow the narrow path along the top edge of the cliff, the mountains on the left and a steep drop down to the rapidly-moving on the right.  They figured that they'd have more luck finding a peaceful place if they traveled as far away from their land as possible.
        They were nearly through the pass when, one morning, Sage slipped on some loose gravel along the side of the path and slid partway down the steep decline toward the water, clinging to an outcropping of rock.  Flint went down after her to try and help her back up, but the outcropping and a small portion of the cliff crumbled, sending both cats falling into the river's rapids, never to be seen again.
        Stunned by the incident, the kits waited for their parents for three long days, frantically searching along the cliff edge in hopes of finding them once more, but eventually, they accepted the fate of the two adults and were forced to move on, weary and heartbroken.  They continued to follow the stream down the mountain, eventually finding themselves in MistClan territory.
        They were found by a patrol sheltering among some rocks near the Falls, close to the border.  Though at first terrified that these cats were as aggressive as the outsider gangs they had been fleeing from, the three young cats' fear quickly turned to curiosity as it became clear they weren't about to be attacked, and they allowed the patrol to lead them back to the Clan's camp.  When the newly-appointed leader, Dovestar, invited them to join the Clan, they agreed and, now being of apprentice age, were assigned mentors.
        Storm, now known as Stormpaw, was to be mentored by the easygoing warrior, Wolfheart.  The fun-loving but patient tom struggled to tame the wayward and often clumsy apprentice, but Stormpaw's intelligence pulled him through.  However, he, along with brothers Sunpaw and Shadowpaw, as well as their new friends Bubblepaw, Graypaw, and Brightfern, still relished in the opportunity to explore and make mischief, frequently finding themselves in trouble with their mentors.  The young she-cat Emberflame, however, held feelings of distrust and dislike for the three brothers because of their outsider origins, as well as Bubblepaw due to her rather suspicious heritage, and frequently gave them grief as soon as she was made an apprentice, as well.
        The group of friend's less-than-mature charades didn't stop them from growing and learning, and soon enough, the three brothers had become warriors.  Stormpaw was given the full name of Stormfall, Sunpaw became Sunwhisker, and Shadowpaw was now known as Shadowstep.  Their friends, Bubblepaw and Graypaw, had also risen in rank, becoming Bubblepool and Grayflash.  Life was good.
        It quickly became apparent, however, that Shadowstep's newly-honed abilities were so powerful that they were far beyond his control, and the young tom began to lose himself in the whisperings he heard in his mind.  It was never clear what exactly Shadowstep was hearing, but gradually, he secluded himself more and more from the others, becoming more irritable and aggressive, and occasionally even lapsing into bouts of seeming insanity.  Many cats in the Clan became fearful of him, as well as distrustful of his brothers, and Sunwhisker and Stormfall didn't know what to think.  Of course they wanted to help their brother, but he had become so irrational that nothing they tried seemed to help.
        When Shadowstep was found standing over Grayflash's mangled body, the latter cat's blood soaked into his fur, it seemed apparent what had happened.  Shadowstep must have lost himself in one of his episodes, and in his rage, brutalized Grayflash, his once-friend.  The black and white tom, just 19 moons old, was exiled from the Clan for murdering a fellow Clanmate, despite Shadowstep's protestations of innocence.  Sunwhisker and Stormfall were devastated by the development, but given the evidence, and Shadowstep's recent behavior, they had no choice but to believe their adoptive brother was a traitor.  They watched him walk between the rows of MistClan cats in silence, too stunned to speak a word on his behalf.  Shadowstep was not seen or heard from again, and it was assumed he was likely dead.  The event also served to solidify newly-made warrior Emberflame's dislike of Sunwhisker and Stormfall into what could be considered hatred.  Several other cats in the Clan also grew even more distrustful of Sunwhisker and Stormfall due to Shadowstep's traitorous act, and the pair of brothers grew heavy-hearted with the weight of their blatant dislike.
        It was around about that time that a young she-cat called Nightpaw was apprenticed. Nightpaw's parents had both been killed - her father falling over Perso Falls and her mother slaughtered by ocelots - and Sunwhisker and Stormfall, able to identify, having lost their own parents at a young age, quickly befriended her. Soon enough, Nightpaw was made into the warrior, Nightsong, and she and the brothers, along with Bubblepool and Brightfern, grew even closer.
        The mistrust from the other cats gradually calmed down, and Sunwhisker and Stormfall became more comfortable with their place in the Clan.   Nearly two cycles passed, with Nightsong and Sunwhisker becoming mates, and Stormfall was given the young outsider-born tom, Fleetpaw, as an apprentice; the pair quickly formed a bond over their like-minded interests.  But a rash of mysterious deaths and disappearances, starting about 18 moons after Shadowstep's exile, began to call Sunwhisker and Stormfall's loyalty into question once again.  Some cats started circulating whispered rumors that the two outsider-born toms were behind the deaths, and Sunwhisker and Stormfall began to notice the now-familiar looks and glares once more.  With no way to prove their innocence, and no other way to explain the unfortunate incidents other than being strangely coincidental accidents, the brothers were forced to live with their Clanmate's distrust yet again.

Meaning of Name : Shadowstep actually gave himself his prefix when he was found by Sunwhisker and Stormfall's parents - Flint and Sage - and taken in, because he held a vehement dislike for his original name - Root, and thought Shadow sounded "much cooler".  His suffix was later given to him upon reaching warriorhood in honor of his ability to move in complete silence, allowing him to go undetected even when in close proximity to others.

Physical Form : Shadowstep has a long-bodied and lithe build, with wiry but strong limbs and a long tail.  He has an average amount of muscle, but his slender form, which lends him speed, combined with his great agility and incredible, phantom-like stealth, make him a deadly foe to have.  His head is round with a slight wedge shape, and his large, triangular ears have an average set.  His muzzle is medium in length with a slightly blocky shape, and his nose is of average size, triangular, and slightly wider than it is tall.
Coat : Shadowstep's pelt is short but fairly thick, a solid black color with just a slight brown undertone.  It has a smooth, sleek texture, and exhibits a glossy sheen under sunlight.  The only markings he has are a white tail tip; a white chin and throat, which tapers to a point just above his upper chest; and a small, white dash on his lower chest, between his front legs.
Eyes : His eyes are almond-shaped and fairly large, and always seem to have a dark, crazed gleam within them.  They are primarily a deep, copper-toned amber-orange in color, with a ring of lighter yellow-amber around the pupil.

Vocal Characteristics : Shadowstep's voice holds a medium pitch, with a fresh, almost youthful quality to it.  During normal speech, it is fairly smooth, but has bit of texture within it - he almost sounds ever-so-slightly whispery.  Due to his self-assured nature, his voice nearly always holds a note of confidence, and quite often has a sinister quality to it, as well, but beyond that, it also has quite a bit of character in its fluctuation of pitch, and he's good at projecting whichever emotions and intentions he desires with it.  When he's angry, it gains a deep, throaty snarl that can be quite chilling.  He speaks in a mixed Lancashire English accent.  [Voice actor John Simm]
Scent : Curiously, even though he is completely unrelated to them, Shadowstep's scent holds a noticeable honey-like quality, similar to Sunwhisker and Stormfall.
Posture : When relaxed, Shadowstep tends to stand fairly straight, with a confident air about him.  That being said, he also tends to stalk a lot, his neck near-even with his back and his nose tilted slightly downward.  During his 'episodes', he stiffens up completely, every muscle in his body tensing up.
Gait : His gait is very smooth and effortless, with a slight spring to it when he's in a good mood and a sinister stalk when he's angry.

Ability(ies) :   • Shadowstep has the ability to hear the voices of StarClan cats, whispered to him on the wind.  He often is able to hear multiple cats speaking at once, but cannot control when he's hearing them and when he isn't.
                  • He also has the ability to create an air pocket around himself, which dampens any noise he creates and increases his already stealthy nature to an incredible level.

Proficiency : He's exceptionally good at using his sound-dampening skill to mask any sound he would make when moving, and so has the ability to sneak up on another individual and observe them without being noticed, even if he's only so much as a tail's length from that individual.  As for his ability to hear the voices of StarClan cats, it is extremely powerful, to the point where he can actually hear the voices of deceased cats who aren't even speaking to him.  However, this ability comes in bouts, and he cannot control it at all, so he is frequently overwhelmed by many, many voices all speaking at once.  It's not a stretch to believe that this has driven him insane, and because of that, he began imagining messages out of the voices, which turned what was once healthy ambition into dark and cruel goals.

Mental Disability(ies) : While his power is real, Shadowstep could be said to have a condition similar to paracusia, or auditory hallucinations.  He hears, in frequent, sporatic, uncontrollable bursts, the voices of many, many deceased cats all speaking at once - not to him, generally, but most often to each other.  Understandably, this keeps him awake at night much of the time, and has contributed greatly to his delusional beliefs and evem a sense of paranoia, and eventually caused his mind to snap completely.

        Shadowstep is, quite frankly, an odd cat.  While he is still entirely able to think with enough clarity to devise intricate and clearly well-thought-out plans, he almost always has some sinister, self-serving goal in the forefront of his mind, and it's obvious he isn't quite 'fully there', as it were.  At times, he lapses into bouts of clear insanity, where he loses himself within his mangled tatters of a mind, but he has occasional moments where this reckless irrationality and self-absorbed manner of thinking drops away, and he seems almost lucid and clear-headed - one might dare to say 'normal'.  These episodes hardly ever last more than a minute or two before he will abruptly revert back to his ominous and slightly crazed nature once more.
        Shadowstep doesn't seem to have much of a conscience anymore, if he has one at all.  This power-hungry tom knows what he wants, and will stop at nothing to reach his goals, regardless of whom he may hurt on the way.  From the time he was a kit, it was always apparent that he was an ambitious cat with a bit of a big head at times, but as he grew, and his power developed, that ambition twisted, and he became more and more selfish, his ego and self-centeredness taking over.  His exile only served to twist him even further, and now, in addition to his long-standing dreams of taking control of the territory, he is obsessed with exacting revenge on his former Clanmates, feeling that he was wrongfully accused due to jealousy and fear of his incredible mind and potential.  Of particular interest to him are his former friends, especially his adopted brothers; he thinks that they abandoned him in his time of need.
        Beyond his insane tendencies, Shadowstep is incredibly confident and self-assured.  While his power-hungry strategies are certainly foreboding and may at first seem foolproof, the tom has a predisposition toward being so certain that his plans are infallible that he can miss a flaw that would otherwise be quite obvious to such a frighteningly intelligent cat.  This can prove to be a huge downfall for him, as other clever cats may be able to perceive and take advantage of these faults, if they know what to look for.
        This tom also has quite the silver tongue, and he seems to have an uncanny, almost hypnotic ability to draw unsuspecting cats in with his honey-toned voice and false promises.  If one isn't aware of the threat, they could easily be taken advantage of, as Shadowstep is an expert at making unwary individuals feel at ease in his presence, if he so desires.  He is also skilled at feigning sensitivity, concern, and compassion, and can easily fool such individuals into thinking he cares, when he really has an ulterior motive.

Fear(s) : Oddly enough, he fears his own mortality, and will always ensure a way out of his plans if he can help it, just in case the odds turn against him.

Goal(s) : Shadowstep's main goal is to exact revenge on the Clan, especially those he feels directly wronged him - his brothers, friends, and Dovestar.  A secondary goal is a deep desire for power, though he has achieved that rather satisfactorily by lording over the other Rebellion members.

Backstory : Shadowstep was born with the name Root, to the outsider Cloud and the MistClan warrior Watertail, with two sisters - Flower and Bubble.  When the kits were only a few days old, Watertail came to visit them, and, upon Cloud's insistence, took Bubble back to the Clan with him.  The queen, prizing her freedom, chose to keep living as an outsider, raising her two remaining kits on her own.
        Under a great deal of emotional duress from her breakup with Watertail, Cloud made the decision to move her kits out of the territory bordering MistClan soon after this.  Wanting to get as far away from Clan territory as possible, she headed for the mountains, carrying her kits as far as she could, as they couldn't walk very well yet.  It took nearly a moon, but eventually, she and both kits made it safely to the other side, moving a bit further downriver toward the ocean every few days to avoid predators.
        Root, the last of the kits to have been born, and the only male, found himself constantly doted upon and fussed over by both his mother and sister.  Rather than feeling special, however, prideful young Root detested this unending feminine affection, and longed for a more paternal figure in his life.  On top of that, the little black kit held a distaste for his own name, finding it "silly" and "boring".  He dreamed of becoming a cat of power and mystery, independent and free from the feminine energy he found so stifling, and often wished for a title that reflected these favorable traits.
        About a half moon after reaching the other side of the mountains, a fierce storm struck, and in the ensuing disarray, Root was washed away downhill and separated from his family.  Though he searched for them, the bad weather, combined with the tumble, scrambled his senses, and he lost track of direction, drifting further and further away from his mother and sister.  After three days of searching and waiting, the kit, thinking that Cloud had abandoned him, resigned himself to the fact that he would not find her or his sister again, and instead turned his attention toward exploring this strange, exciting new territory - much like the self-sufficient, independent cat he'd always longed to be.
        A few days later, and Root found himself slowly starving.  Though he'd managed to sustain himself on the occasional fish that had been washed up onto the banks from the harsh weather, it was hardly enough to live off of, and though he attempted to hunt on his own, the two-and-a-half-moon-old kit did not yet have the skills necessary to be an efficient predator.  The once bold and pride-filled Root became weary and disheartened, and feared his imminent death.
        Purely by luck, however, he found himself in the territory of another small family - that of Sage and Flint, and their two young sons, Sun and Storm.  Unwilling to see him starve, the two parents took the black kit under their wings, adopting him into the family.  Upon being prompted for his name, Root saw an opportunity to rid himself of the label he'd always hated, and so introduced himself as "Shadow" instead.
        The newly self-christened Shadow quickly settled into his new family, bonding rapidly with his foster brothers and adopting Flint as the father figure he'd never had but always longed for.  In hardly any time at all, the young tom all but forgot about his mother and sister, finding himself much happier and satisfied in his new home.
