LCARS
Species
Canon Star Trek Species
KLINGON
HOMEWORLD: Qo'noS (Kronos)
An aggressive, dominant race that holds honor above all else, even life. They are stronger than humans and even Vulcans, have a keen sense of smell, and are easily identified by their long, thick hair and pronounced cranial ridges, which are unique to each individual, much like a human fingerprint. A warrior's death, preferably in battle, is seen as a necessity, and those who succumb to illness or age, or are taken prisoner, are seen as being honorless. A Klingon is responsible for his family's actions, and if a relative's honor is compromised, his family will bear the shame for generations to come.
VULCAN
HOMEWORLD: Vulcan
A race of superior logic, Vulcans are supremely intellectual beings who, over the centuries, have learned to almost completely suppress their once excessively violent and warlike emotions in nearly every aspect of their lives. Unlike humans, and many other humanoids, they have copper-based blood, which gives them a slightly green-tinted complexion, but the most notable differences in appearance between humans and Vulcans are their downward-tilting, archless eyebrows and their pointed ears. They have some slight telepathic powers (hence the famous Vulcan mind-meld), are typically stronger than humans, and can live for up to 300 years. Vulcans were the first alien species to make first contact with Earth, on the date of April 5, 2063, when they realized that humans had achieved warp speed capabilities, thanks to the test run of Dr. Zefram Cochrane's ship, the Phoenix.
ROMULAN
HOMEWORLD: Romulus
Ancient offshoots of the Vulcans, the Romulans are often viewed by outsiders as being clever, conniving, and deceptive. Although they share a common ancestor, and their appearances are very much alike, the similarities between the two species end there. The Romulans are one of the few alien races to use a cloaking device, and, as a rule, prefer to wait and observe while others make the first move. In a hostile encounter, they typically will not fire first, instead waiting for a sign of weakness or antagonistic behavior in the opponent; however, they make formidable and tricky opponents to anyone brave (or foolish) enough to cross their path.
TRILL
HOMEWORLD: Trill
Characterized by the rows of spots running from the side of the head all the way down to the toes, the Trill are one of only a few joined species - that is, a small percentage of the Trill population co-exists with a sentient symbiotic organism known as a symbiont, which is implanted inside their bodies. Rigorous training and testing is performed on the potential 'hosts', so that only a few of the most qualified Trill are selected for joining. The joined Trill have personalities which are a combination of the two beings, including the memories, and to some extent the personalities, of the previous hosts of the symbiont. Each symbiont can live for hundreds of years, and once the current host grows old and is near death, the symbiont is transferred to another suitable host. Once joined, the symbiont and host are dependent on each other after 93 hours, and if the symbiont is removed, both it and the host will die within hours, unless rejoined with another host or symbiont. The Trill are generally a wise and intelligent race, and many individuals excel in careers in science or mathematics.
ANDROID (SOONG-TYPE)
HOMEWORLD: N/A (Data and his brothers were constructed on Omicron Theta)
Uniquely characterized by their highly-complex positronic brains, the Soong-type androids, like Commander Data and his son, Matrix, are by far the highest-ranking artificial life forms ever to participate in Starfleet's test of sentience. They are typically thought of as having pale skin and unusually-colored, yellow (or, in Matrix's case, green) eyes, but Data's mother, Juliana Tainer (who, in a strange twist, is also his sister, as the human Juliana was killed and her memories and personality were transferred into an android body by her then-husband, Dr. Noonien Soong), and Data's short-lived daughter, Lal, were almost completely human in their appearances. The Soong-type androids (with the possible exception of Juliana Tainer, who acts and appears predominantly human) have incredible strength - able to lift over 10 times the weight a human can - extraordinary mental capabilities, speed of thought, agility, intelligence, an ability to adapt and learn, extremely sharp eyesight, and hearing described as being "better than the average dog's". Despite their incredible intelligence, memory, and learning abilities, both Data and Matrix, the only androids in Starfleet, earned their rank, just as every other Starfleet officer would have.
Out-of-Series Species
LYCANARIAN
HOMEWORLD: Lycanaria
The Lycanarians are large, sentient, wolflike creatures with birdlike wings, residing on a planet on the other side of Cardassian space, opposite the Federation. Previously unknown to anyone outside the Cardassian Empire, the individual Acara was the first to make contact with Starfleet officers aboard the Enterprise-D, rescued during a mission to free two Bajoran Starfleet officers from a Cardassian concentration camp. The species can be anywhere from 4 to 5 feet high at the shoulder, about 4 ½ to 5 ½ feet in length from the chest to the rump, and usually weigh between 150 and 200 pounds (their bones are hollow and very light, but strong, like a bird's). The wingspan ranges from 22 to 30 feet from tip to tip; when folded, the primary feathers extend about 1 ½ to 2 feet beyond the base of the tail. They can live to be over 100 years old, and their adulthood spans much of this time. They are fully mature by age 6, but usually only begin to show their age at around 75-80 years old. The legs are proportionately longer than an Earth wolf, the neck is a bit longer and slimmer, the paws proportionally larger, and the chest and shoulders broader - their body structure is overall quite similar to a wolfhound's. The Lycanarians are able to shapeshift with the aid of a special, colorful rock-crystal which is worn around the neck with a sort of "chain" and which engraves itself with a marking unique to each individual at the moment it is placed on its owner. This rock-crystal pendant also acts as a sort of translator, allowing the wearer to communicate with other species. If the pendant is removed, the individual is no longer able to change shape or communicate verbally. Very fast, strong, and agile, they can attain running speeds nearing 50 mph (and maintain that speed for several minutes), a top flight speed of nearly 60 mph (but have a typical cruising speed of 30-40), and can use their wings as powerful "propellers" to attain underwater speeds of up to 20 mph. They are also able to perform amazing aerial acrobatics, and have enough physical strength (equated to about 4-5 times that of an average human) to easily beat most other beings in hand-to-hand (or hand-to-paw!) physical combat and even force some doors. They can also take off with and carry in the air up to around 400 pounds of weight, though this is attained with difficulty.

Re: Trekkies United: Going Boldly
Name: Brianna Dhaki
Rank: second-year cadet, starfleet academy
Species: half human, half betazoid
Date of birth: (lol Idk she should be 15/16 yes?)
physical description: female, hair, orange-red wavy to the top of her shoulders, skin white with some facial freckles of a light golden color, eyes black. 5'7, athletic build with wider than average shoulders and hips and a wide stance. 175 pounds.
specialization: engineering, warp cores
personality description: outwardly calm and collected, fairly unflappable and matter-of-fact. incredibly honest, even when she knows it will upset others.
special abilities: due to half betazoid heritage on her mother's side, brianna is an empath, capable of sensing the emotions of others. as a child this could be very disruptive at times as the place she lived in was often filled with scandal and intrigue. as such she became a bit of a misanthrope to protect her own mind from the backlash of the emotions of others. her father did not know how to train her to block herself off, so she is always open to being influenced, especially by the negative emotions of others.

Re: Trekkies United: Going Boldly
After a couple moments of looking over his shoulder, he turned back around and jumped slightly as a cadet rounded the corner in front of him, looking rather worse for wear. He just blinked at her for a moment, mouth slightly agape, before shaking himself of his surprise and stepping forward to offer her his arm. "Are you alright, miss?" he asked her in concern. "You're looking a bit... uncomfortable..." Well, that was putting it mildly...

Re: Trekkies United: Going Boldly
Matrix nodded, giving a very soft hum. "Conveniently, I am also heading for medical," he said, his cheeks turning ever-so-slightly darker gold as he surreptitiously continued to orient himself, not letting on that he was a bit turned around. After a few moments, he managed to figure out what he thought was the right way, and turned in the direction she had been headed, letting her lean on his shoulder. "It's my first day actually working in the clinic." Of course, he had helped out Dr. Crusher a bit while he was on the Enterprise, but that wasn't quite the same as being given permission to train in an Academy clinic.
He glanced down at her briefly at her questions before turning his gaze back to the path ahead. "My name is Matrix. I'm... an android," he replied after a moment, feeling slightly uncertain. Not everyone was all that welcoming to androids, and even more, he'd found, were opposed to the idea of an android medical officer.
Re: Trekkies United: Going Boldly
"matrix?" she asked, a bit taken aback by the name, and clearly more so by the fact he was an android. "you don't need to be embarrassed, I'm sure it's hard to orient yourself in a new location," she immediately soothed him. his chagrin wasn't helping her migraine, though...it felt...different somehow. probably because he was an android, and not a natural living creature? "you said you work in the clinic? so you're studying medical?" she asked, not actually feigning curiosity for once. "have your studies proven difficult or easy so far, given your different life experiences?" really, she was most curious about how in the universe an android had emotions, but that seemed a bit forward to question when she'd hardly met the poor young man...

Re: Trekkies United: Going Boldly
Matrix's eyes brightened slightly in intrigue at that. "Ah, fascinating. I actually know someone else who is half-Betazoid," he told her, thinking of Counselor Troi. He wondered how everyone on the Enterprise was doing. He often received letters from his father, but it wasn't the same as actually being on board.
As she spoke again, he was snapped from his reverie, blinking once before nodding, frowning a little in sympathy. "Indeed; I would imagine that's difficult for you to deal with," he murmured. "I believe it's just around the corner..." They rounded said corner a moment later, and Matrix spotted the clinic just up ahead. "Ah!" he exclaimed happily, leading her through the door.
A nurse stepped over as they entered, looking slightly peeved. "Cadet Matrix, you're late--" she began, before realizing Brianna's condition.
Matrix looked up at the nurse apologetically. "Yes, I... got a little lost," he admitted sheepishly, his cheeks flushing slightly once again, "and then I encountered this cadet in the corridor. ...My apologies; I never asked your name," he added, looking to the cadet with added embarrassment at the realization as he helped her toward a biobed.

Re: Trekkies United: Going Boldly
The nurse nodded at the name, removing a medical tricorder from its holster around her waist and starting to open it up before pausing and looking to Matrix. "Cadet, perhaps you would like to take care of this," she told him, handing him the tricorder with a slight smile.
Matrix's emerald eyes widened in surprise. "Oh, I, um... Okay," he fumbled, taking the tricorder and opening it up, performing a quick scan to be sure that Brianna's problem was, indeed, just a simple headache. After a moment, he nodded. "Right, yes, I know just the thing," he announced, sounding much more confident. He closed the tricorder and handed it back to the nurse before striding across the room and beginning to search around for the remedy he knew would relieve the migraine. He found it remarkably quickly, inserted the vial into a hypospray, and stepped back toward Brianna with a small smile, injecting the medication.

Re: Trekkies United: Going Boldly
"Well done, cadet," the nurse told him, giving him a nod and returning to her station as Brianna left. Matrix was warmed slightly by the praise, though, he thought, a headache was quite an easy fix.
He had turned to follow the nurse when Brianna's voice from the doorway caused him to pause again, looking back over his shoulder. "I don't typically, since I don't require sustenance, but I may have to make an exception," he responded with a slightly sad smile. "You would be correct in your assumptions - I don't have many friends." Well, he didn't really have any true friends, to be precise. Sure, some of his fellow cadets were much friendlier than others, but he hadn't truly made any friends amongst them. After dwelling on that thought for a mere fraction of a second, he looked back to the other cadet, giving her a more genuine smile with a slight tilt of his head. "It was a pleasure to meet you, Cadet Dhaki."

Re: Trekkies United: Going Boldly
later that day, it was time for lunch. though, again, there were too many people for brianna's liking in one place, food made people happy, and her headache had yet to return, if it even would at all. she got her tray of food and settled down, poking at it a little before glancing around for the other cadet. she hoped he could see her, as she was only about the human average when sitting down, and liked to hide in the far corner of the room near the smaller exit so people she didn't want wouldn't sit nearby her. was he coming? perhaps he was busy? as he didn't need to eat or drink (or presumably any other normal human thing, like sleeping, showering and so on) they might ask or require him to work extra hours so the humans could take breaks, she supposed. it would be the rather selfish human thing to do...though in her experience the medical staff were always the most compassionate of the group.

Re: Trekkies United: Going Boldly
When he arrived, he quickly set to looking around for Brianna, eschewing the food, as he had no need for it. With his sharp eyes, he found her quickly, and headed over, giving her a small smile. "May I join you?" he asked politely, wanting to make sure she was still up for his company.
Re: Trekkies United: Going Boldly
"so, uh, matrix," she said, poking her food again but doing her best to look him in the emerald green eyes, "tell me about yourself. where did you come from, who are your parents, the usual stuff." by which she meant the usual questions one cadet would ask another. she had been thinking for hours how to phrase her questions as politely as possible, as normally as possible, for the young android. she didn't want to acknowledge his difference to organic beings, especially when he seemed to be working very hard to fit in and be accepted. "were you born on a planet? if so, which one? I was born on betazed, but my father didn't want to stay after my mother...erm, so I was actually raised on earth," she volunteered.

Re: Trekkies United: Going Boldly
His frown deepened slightly in thought at her questions. 'The usual stuff'... well, perhaps usual for any other cadet, maybe, but not quite as easy to answer in his case. "Well..." he began, shifting slightly in his seat, "I was actually constructed on the Enterprise. My father is Lieutenant Commander Data. He is an android, as well. I don't have a mother." He tilted his head slightly once more, considering her words. "I have never been to Betazed, though I hear it is quite pleasant," he offered, wondering what she'd been about to say about her mother, but sensing that perhaps he should not ask. "Where on Earth were you raised?" It must have been very different to have been raised on a planet, rather than on a starship, as he had. Then again, his situation probably seemed even stranger to her; most children didn't have the opportunity to grow up in space.

He shook himself from his thoughts as she spoke of her own childhood. "That sounds difficult," he murmured sympathetically. "I'm sorry." He was about to say something more when she changed the subject. He gave a slight laugh of surprised amusement at the abrupt change in conversation. "Well, I can't say I know what you mean, as I have yet to eat anything on this station," he responded, his eyes glinting with humor.
